Marlena's in the kitchen... RUN!

Space Ooze

You will need:

  • 1- 5 oz. Bottle clear washable school glue (I used Elmer's)
  • 1/4-3/4 cup- Liquid starch (I used sta-flo)
  • Non-toxic liquid watercolor, tempera paint, or food coloring (I used black, blue and purple tempera)
  • Fine or Micro Fine glitter (I used black and silver micro-fine glitter)
------Other things you will want/ need------
  • Large non-porus bowl (glass and metal work great, plastic might work, but it might stain)
  • Plastic/ rubber/ silicone spatula ( I learned that my silicone spatula was perfect for stirring together)
  • Contained play area (I used a piece of glass, because I have wooden counters. I would suggest not using this on wood or any natural stone like granite, marble or soapstone. Placemats work well, so do wax/ parchment paper/ freezer paper, big plastic bowls, big plastic concrete mixing troughs, and metal buffet pans.

  • Start by adding your container of glue to your bowl.
  • Next add paint and glitter, I didn't measure for this, I just added what I thought I needed, and it turned out well, as long as you don't add the starch you can continue to add glitter and paint until you reach what you want.
  • After you have achieved the color you want, add starch little by little. (I can't stress this enough, put it in an easily portable container that you can pour out small amounts from. When I made my initial batch, I put my starch in a pyrex measuring cup and added it little bit by little bit. If you add too much I don't think it can be undone.
  • After you have added a tiny amount of starch start mixing. You can use a spatula if you want to be tidy. I like using my hands so I can feel the texture, it will be messy at first but once it gets to the right consistency, it should stick to itself, not you or other objects.
  • Play with the awesome ooze!

I really like this stuff, I have it in the fridge and some times if I am angry I just grab it and squish it, to relieve stress. It is super easy to clean up also, if there is any mess just soap and water cleans it up! I also had no problems with staining, I did get some on my shirt and it washed out, it was a bit harder to get out of my hair [laughing], just to be safe though, if you are making this for little ones, supervision is best, and maybe an old shirt just in case! Have fun! If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them here, pictures can posted to facebook and tagged or to instagram and tagged "msmmidnite"!
